Should students being allowed to use cell phones during school hours?

Q. I chose no. for my persuasive essay my reasons so far is that it would be disruptive and cause students not to focus and concentrate, and cause cheating...what other reasons should students not be allowed to use cell phones during school hours?

A. It can be really disruptive, but it can also be helpful. It's really interesting seeing cellphone and personal computer use at my university. Lots of times people pull out their phones and go online to answer questions the teacher cannot. Multimedia use in classrooms is rapidly becoming a serious educational tool. Basically anybody who was born after the mid-eighties uses hyper attention as opposed to deep concentration. We are able to focus on more things at once than our education system has evolved to allow us. We can multitask much more than we used to be able to do, which is why you see kids so bored in school when they are being forced to focus on one thing yammering on at the front of the class. It's true I think that in elementary and high school cell phones are normally disruptive to the class and not being used for educational purposes, but I see a huge change in the university setting. One of my professors set up a twitter feed so that we could communicate with each other without necessarily interrupting the flow of the class. That way were were able to comment, joke around, and have questions answered without disrupting the lecture. It was very interesting. It wasn't used very much by most of the class, but I predict that there will be much more of this type of thing going on in classrooms in the future.

Should kids be allowed to use cell phones at school?
Q. I have to write a persuasive essay. And I need 3 good reasons why kids shouldn't be allowed to use cell phones in school.

A. I would say yes, for contacting a parent if needed, but they should leave it in a backpack.

3 reasons why not though

1. it can distract other students

2. it can get out of hand and students can text in class

3.It can get lost, damaged, broken, or stolen

What do you think about cell phones in school?
Q. I'm writing an essay and I want to know what y'all think: Should we be allowed to have cell phones in school or not? My essay is due tomorrow, but I'll check back anyway, so yeah. THANK YOU FOR ANSWERING!!

A. Well, if all people were like me, the answer would be yes, we should. However, lots of kids my age are careless so at my old school, we always heard it ring during class which was annoying. I always turn my phone off during school and at my school now, we're not allowed to have cell phones in our pockets during school. Even my elementary school, when I was in 5th grade a teacher got mad at me for using my phone when school hadn't even STARTED (like 10 min before class would start) but she said phones ONLY after school which is not very reasonable (to me, at least).

We would need cell phones in school because what if a murderer was at school and we didn't have phones to know if the murderer was gone/call our parents to take us from school after the murderer was gone? Or what if we needed to be picked up because of a power outage, and we needed to call our parents but we couldn't?
