Is it illegal to unlock a cell phone?
Q. I see lots of 'unlocked' cell phones for sale on Craigslist, and was wondering, how hard is it to unlock a cell phone, and is it illegal?
A. Nope sure isnt!
Can you by a phone off of ebay and use on a verizon wireless plan?

A. Only if it is a cell phone made for the Verizon network. I have bought several phones off eBay and just activated it online at no cost (if you call in or go into the store there is a chance of paying a $25 to $35 activation fee.).
Just make sure that it is for the Verizon network and not for AT&T, Sprint, etc. as those will not work on Verizon's network. Second, before placing any bid, ask the seller if they will provide you with the ESN or HEX number so you can make sure that it is fee and clear of any charges from the current owner. If they happen to not pay their early termination fee, etc., and you try to activate it, the only way Verizon will activate the phone would be if you paid those charges. Verizon is the one that advise me to do this prior to bidding and buying on eBay, or any other auction or even from an individual. They said it is good protection for you and your money. Once you get the numbers you call Verizon and just say you are interested in purchasing a phone through someone else and want to check the ESN / HEX number and Verizon will check it for you. My best advise wold be if the seller will not provide you with this information or if they insist it is new so there are no problems with it.....don't bid on it!

A. apply with them and all their competitors your bound to get one of them. i have a cousin that does telecom sales... two actually its nothing like cell phone sales. but get in the door with a competitor and put in a year then you will be much more desireable to your company of choice.
